Lisa Whybourn was the only British woman to survive the opening round of Wimbledon qualifying.
Of the eight Brits in action in the ladies' singles at Roehampton on Tuesday, Whybourn was the only one who made it through to round two.
The 21-year-old, who made the final round of qualifying two years ago, saw off Germany's Sarah Gronert 6-1 4-6 6-4 to book a second-round meeting with former world number 35 Sesil Karatantcheva.
Teenager Tara Moore, fresh from beating world number 53 Iveta Benesova at the AEGON Classic last week, was close to victory against Japan's Erika Sema could not close out in the second-set-tie-break before going down 4-6 7-6 (7/5) 6-4.
Samantha Murray and Anna Fitzpatrick were also beaten in three-setters, while Mel South, Jade Windley, Katy Dunne and Emily Webley-Smith all bowed out in straight sets.
In the men's singles, Chris Eaton narrowly lost his second-round match to top seed Jurgen Zopp.
Eaton, who made the second round of the main draw back in 2008, lost 7-6 (9/7) 7-6 (8/6).
Kyle Edmund, a member of Great Britain's Junior Davis Cup-winning team last season, is also out after losing 0-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-2 to Uruguay's Marcel Felder.
