Edmund tumbles out of SW19 qualifying
Kyle Edmund was unable to follow up his stunning victory on the opening day of Wimbledon qualifying as he was knocked out in the second round by Marcel Felder.
Edmund yesterday [Tuesday] eliminated Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver - a player ranked 1168 places above him and seeded 12th here - and the 17-year-old looked on course for another triumph today [Wednesday] as he won the opening set to love against Felder.
However, the 27-year-old Uruguayan, ranked 276, battled back to take the victory 0-6 7-6 (7/2) 6-2 and progress through to the third round in Roehampton.
Another Briton Chris Eaton also tumbled out after a hard-fought encounter with top seed Jurgen Zopp, the Estonian winning 7-6 (9/7) 7-6 (8/6).
Zopp was full of praise for his opponent, saying on www.wimbledon.com: "It was really close and could have gone either way, it was a matter of a few points in the tie break and that was it so I am really happy that I managed to win those two tie breaks.
"He plays completely different style than any other player here. He plays serve and volley and he doesn't give you any rhythm.
"I think he played a great match. I didn't play bad but he served unbelievably well. I don't know how many aces he hit and a great first volley. It's always tough to play these kinds of players."
In the ladies singles, wild card Lisa Whybourn won her first round match against Sarah Gronert of Germany 6-1 4-6 6-4 but her fellow Britons Jade Windley, Katy Dunne, Anna Fitzpatrick,
Melanie South and Tara Moore were all beaten.
Meanwhile, American Brian Baker, who recently returned to the tour after six years out because of injuries, made it through to the third round of the men's singles with a 6-2 6-4 win over German Denis Gremelmayr. The 27-year-old is seeded eighth at Roehampton.
