Top seed David Ferrer started the week with a straight-sets ousting of Canadian qualifier Pierre-Ludovic Duclos, 6-4, 6-4. The 2008 UNICEF Open champion is bidding for his 40th match win of the season. With a victory on Wednesday, he is through to his 10th quarterfinal in 2012.
World No. 62 Leonardo began the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Russian qualifier Mikhail Ledovskihk. The 25-year-old Argentine will attempt to reach his second quarterfinal of the season.
(3) Jurgen Melzer vs. Tatsuma Ito
Third seed Jurgen Melzer cruised through his opener against Russia’s Igor Kunitsyn, 6-1, 6-1. The 31-year-old veteran is seeking his first quarterfinal since February, when he sealed a title-winning run in Memphis.
World No. 70 Tatsuma Ito rallied to defeat Hungarian qualifier Marton Fucsovics in the first round, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(2). The 24-year-old looks to reach his first Tour-level quarterfinal of the season.
