Top seed David Ferrer won his 40th match of the season after taking out Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer in the round of 16. The 2008 UNICEF Open winner is bidding for his 7th ATP World Tour semifinal berth in 2012.

Wildcard Igor Sijsling is through to the quarterfinal following his 7-5, 7-6(4) ousting of Belgium’s Olivier Rochus. The 24-year-old looks to make his first Tour-level semifinal on Thursday.

Gilles Muller vs. Xavier Malisse
World No. 54 Gilles Muller holds a 2-1 series lead against World No. 95 Xavier Malisse. Thursday signals their first meeting on grass.

Muller made the final eight by virtue of his 6-3, 6-0 victory over Alejandro Falla. The 29-year-old is seeking his first semifinal since September 2011, when he finished among the last four in Metz.

Malisse reached the quarterfinal after dismissing Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi in the round of 16. The 31-year-old Belgian will attempt to book his third consecutive semi at the UNICEF Open.
